How the MOT test works
During the MOT, important parts of your vehicle will be checked to ensure they meet the legal standards. You can watch the test from a viewing area but cannot interrupt the tester.
Check Your MOT History
Our free to use MOT History tool provides detailed information for each MOT test your vehicle has undergone, including the test result, the recorded mileage, and, importantly, the expiry date of the test. For cars, motorcycles and vans you can get results for tests done since 2005.
For HGVs, trailers, buses and coaches you can only get results for tests done since 2018.

About the Test
The MOT tests some essential items on your vehicle to ensure they meet legal standards. It is different from having your vehicle serviced and does not check its general mechanical condition.
MOT Cost 2024
The maximum fee for an MOT test depends on your vehicle type. For example, a car (up to 8 passenger seats) can be charged up to £54.85, while a motorcycle (up to and over 200cc) can be charged up to £29.65. However, these are the maximum fees, and many MOT test centres offer lower prices to attract customers.
